Across  the  world, from  time  to  time,  Godmen  and  sex scandals  have  become  a   topic  of  not  just  discussion  but  disgust. Why  is  it  different  when  a  Godmen  is  involved  in  sex  or  financial  scandals?

The  value  of  Godmen  in  society :

Every  profession  has   a  certain  stature…it  is  deep  seated  into  our  psych   knowingly or  unknowingly…godmen, saints, priests, doctors, teachers  are  expected  to  be noble.

Of course  there  are  ethics  and  morals  for  all  of  us  but  in  this  modern  world  order   we  expect   a  businessman  to  be  corrupt, lawyers  to  be  lairs, politicians  to  be  self  serving  but  when  it  comes  to  Godmen  and  priests  they  are  supposed  to  be  spokesmen  of  God….the  moral  standard   on  which   a  society  is  build…the  one  that  create  a  conscience,  the  difference  between vice and  virtue…the   one  standard  on  which  society  measures  its  citizens.   They   are  the  noble  kind  who  we  have  to  follow  to   become  human  and  not  remain  just   people . So  when  these  people  undermine  their  credibility  by  their  actions ,  the  entire  social  structure  loses  its  moral  fabric. It  is  not  one  individual   who  is  effected,  it  is  the  entire  society.

Why  is  it  more  than  wrong  when  Godmen  are  involved?

Most  of  us (those  who  believe  in  god  in  some  form  or  other  which  is  90%  of  the  society)  do  not  usually  spend  our  entire  time  worshiping  god. We  remember  our  gods  in  time  of  need. We  approach  god  and   their  Godmen, priests,  saints  in   hoping  for  answers, support ,   guidance….right  when  we  are  in  the  gutter  of  life.  And  that  is  when  instead  of  giving  us  solace, support   and  direction  do  these  people  exploit  us….which  I  say   is  like  kicking  a   dying  man.

 Now,  who  would  do  that?  The  worst  amongst  us….but   aren’t  these  are  supposed  to  be  best  amongst  us  in  morals  and  ethics? The  one  we  should  imitate?  The  men  in  the  great   good  books  that  dictates  social  behavior?

The  trust  deficit

Every  woman  in  her  life  gets  to  hear  and  say  these  words  at  some  point  of  time, “they  are  men,  be  careful.  They  only  want  one  thing.”

When  we  meet  a  businessman  our  first  instinct  is  to  bargain. why? because  we  know  he/she  would  be  overcharging  us...cheating  us  maybe. 

But  when  it  comes  to  Godmen  no  one  says  these  things…we  trust  them. No one  thinks of  them  as  mere  men  they  are  Godmen…men  of  god…..far  superior  than  the   mere  mortals….even  the  worst  skeptic  thinks  twice  before  blaming  a   Godman.

                                                     

So, it  is  not  just  about  rape,  corruption  or  self  serving  behavior  that  hurts  us,  it  is  the  breach  of  the  basic  human  trust. …the  kind  that  makes  a  child  trust  it’s  parents,  teachers, doctors  and   saints. Like  it  or  not  these  four  category  of  people  everyone   learns  to  trust  as  we  grow….even  if  we  don’t  want  these   people  teach  us  morals  and  ethics,  we  carry  what  we  learn  from  them  throughout  our  life….morals  and  ethics  that  dictate  our  behavior  to  a  large  extent.

So  when  these  people  screw  up  they  screw  up  the  entire   foundation  of  society…they  destroy   our  trust…our  faith  in   all   goodness, our  faith  is  god,  our  understanding  of  morality  and   ethics,   our  duty  and  conscience.

It’s  not  just  one  rape  when  a  Godmen  rapes,  it  is  not  just  corruption  when  Godmen  are  proved  to  be  frauds…..it  is  the  fundamentals  of   our  social  order  that  is  raped.   

And  then  the  question  that  comes  to  the  mind  is  if  saints,  Godmen,  priests,  that  are  supposed  to  be  the  moral  standard  for  society,  behave  like  mere  robbers  and  rapists  is  there  a  way  out  for  society?

Maybe  it’s  time  we  found  new  gods  and  new  Godmen…put  our  trust  in  something  really  great.

P.S:No, I  am  not  including  Tantra  here  which  is  trying  to  recreate  supreme  energy with  mutual  consent …and   has  nothing  to  do  with  rape  and   corruption  so  rampant   amongst  these  godmen.
